アルバム名：Heaven Is For Easy Girls
While Montreal's given the world a dozen exciting, chart-topping, jagged-pomo indie bands this past year alone, let us not forget the more subtle charms of Vancouver's indie-pop scene. With bands like Destroyer, the Organ, New Pornographers, and Frog Eyes, it would be fair to call Vancouver's music darker and more lyrically strange, while tending towards guitar-heavy, orchestral pop in terms of its sound. True to its roots, the Awkward Stage is the cleverly named brainchild of Shane Nelken, whose frequent side-dude spots in bands has earned him the reputation of 'Vancouver indie scene's secret weapon.' With smarty-pants song titles like 'The Morons Are Winning,' 'T-Rexia Nervosa,' and 'I Love You, Hipster Darling,' it's clear that a certain amount of self-awareness is at play here. But there's not so much that it detracts from this very pleasant, tastefully decadent pop album. --Mike McGonigal
