原始呐喊是提名全英音乐奖的非主流乐队，1982年成立于苏格兰格拉斯哥。目前成员有主唱 Bobby Gillespie、吉他手 Andrew Innes、键盘手 Martin Duffy、贝斯手 Gary 'Mani' Mounfield 以及鼓手 Darrin Mooney，而 Barrie Coddigan 在2006年的巡回之中短期担任替代原吉他手 Robert 'Throb' Young 的位置，而 Young 的正式归队声明尚未宣布。至今他们已经突破销售了千万张的销售量。

乐队在1982-1984年间进行表演，但是他们的表演事业并未因而起飞，直到主唱离开乐队加入 Jesus And Mary Chain 担任鼓手，该乐队在八零年代中期的独立音乐圈具有相当地位。乐队舍弃了初期的 jangly sound 后，渐渐转向迷幻以及车库摇滚的走向，同时音乐中也加入了许多舞曲元素。乐队 1991 年的专辑 呐喊症候群 (Screamadelica) 突破了自我正式进入主流圈。尽管乐队成员有多次改组，乐队确实得到了市场上的成功并且至今仍持续录制新作品以及巡回表演当中。
