　　全名Elvis Aron Presley的猫王，1935年1月8日出生于美国南方的密西西比州一个叫Tupelo的小镇，由于是独子，猫王跟妈妈的感情特别好。镇上有一间大教堂，从小猫王就常常去教堂报到，因为教学里的福音歌曲深深地吸引猫王小小的心灵。11岁的生日时，热爱音乐的猫王收到了他生平的第一把吉他，教学的牧师便教猫王弹吉他和弦，并让猫王在教学里演唱，持续接受福音乐声的洗礼。

　　1948年秋，猫王一家从密西西比州的Tupelo镇迁到田纳西州的曼菲斯，此次搬家对猫王而言别具意义，因为此举让猫王得以在这个以黑人灵魂乐、节奏蓝调为根源的城市，汲取与先前福音音乐截然不同的音乐养份，再加入白人的乡村音乐，而形成他日后前所未有、独树一帜的音乐表演风格。

　　50年代初期，当时节奏蓝调还被视为是黑人的音乐，只有黑人可以演奏演唱，压根没人想到要跨越黑白问题的藩篱。当时有一位经营太阳唱片公司的山姆菲利普先生，想要找一位可以将节奏蓝调表现完美的白人，希望藉此将节奏蓝调这种好音乐介绍给更多的人知道。于是他发掘了猫王，极力看好猫王那种截然不同既快又激动火力十足的诠释歌曲方式，便与Elvis签订合约灌录唱片，于是在1954年7月19日猫王发行了生平第一张单曲唱片‘That's Alright,Mama’，山姆菲利普先生还亲自带着唱片驱车至各乡镇贩售，反应热烈，席卷了美国南部各州，猫王也就此开始他音乐版图叱吒风云的一生。

　　对于当时的病态青少年而言，猫王Elvis Presley提供了一个认同的指标。扭臀、抖脚极尽夸张的舞台表演脚体动作、开敞的衬衫、喇叭裤、鬓角鸭尾头、浑厚的嗓音…，集流行、娱乐、狂野、帅气、性感于一身，猫王旋风更由美国一路蔓延远飙至全世界，世界各地的青少年无不为之疯狂，幻想自己就是猫王，那个在舞台上浑然忘我尽情高歌摇摆的Elvis 。

　　记得曾经看过一篇有关于猫王的报导，有一段是这么途述的：‘我看到Elvis那么有胆子地跳舞，热爱音乐并夸张的扭着他的屁股，对我的帮助的确很大，如果他的内心如此自由，他可以这么扭他的屁股，对我的帮助的确很大，如果他的内心如此自由，他可以这么扭他的屁股，那么，我也行啊！我想那时候每个青少年都想成为Elvis吧…’，‘如果星期天下午的机车俱乐部聚会，没有猫王摇滚乐的陪衬，那将会是多么单调无聊啊！’，非常贴切的刻划出当时猫王与摇滚乐的power，已经深值于青少年的日常生活当中，密不可分。

　　换言之，纯就音乐而言，猫王带动了摇滚乐的精神，展现了属于年轻人的活力与单纯乐观的想法，藉由摇滚乐的呐喊唤起青少年的意识抬头，形成一股不可忽视的青少年文化，他们企图用音乐去改变现有的体制与世界，这股50年代因摇滚乐才形成的青少年文化现象，将会与日俱增，持续延伸影响了60年代与起的热门摇滚乐团披头四与往后的民权运动，意义非凡。

　　时至今日，新的音乐形态，瞬息万变，推陈出新，但猫王的神采依旧令世人怀念，他的音乐仍然是张张畅销，曲曲动听，而披头四John Lennon就曾说过：‘猫王虽然已经过世了，但摇滚乐不死，猫王万岁！’
