Daddy did his best to provide, but he was far with his touch and far with his bloodshot eyes most every night. And momma didn't know how to love a man... she was just a girl when they tied the knot and wed, but she was a pretty sight...
So they packed their bags and they moved out east to the Tulsa drought from the rain and the Oregon trees, trying to get it right. They got pregnant with two or three, but they lost them all with the stress that a new job brings... and then they had me. I was a son of a gun with angel wings, that's where they got the name for me the night I first saw the world. With one eye opened and the other closed I let out a yell, and all of hell broke loose... and they got divorced...
Momma raised me. Jesus was my dad... And I was cool with that.
Momma remarried and I took his name. I called him “dad”, but it didn't feel the same... it just numbed the pain. And we moved down south running towards the green of the oil fields from the rain and the Oregon trees... And a gypsy I became. I learned how to run and how not to show that loosing a dad is more than a boy should know when a family dies. So with one eye opened and the other closed I stiffened up my lip and tried hard to forget the McGuire side...
Momma raised me. Jesus was my dad... And I was cool with that.
