Even though the encounter was brief, sometimes I wonder how are they doing? The refugees, the stateless, the poor, the homeless, the marginalised, and their children. “I Wonder” was inspired by people from these communities. The young boy who carried a full-size accordion with his frail body on the regional train from Naples to Pompeii. The old man who leaned against the wall on the floor outside of his empty house humming a prayer in Aswan. The group of children and their breastfeeding mother who squeezed into a small cabin on the local train from Brasov to Sighisoara. The friends from the refugee community whom I played music with in Kuala Lumpur. The students from Sekolah Alternatif, a school for undocumented kids I got to hang out with in Semporna.
“I Wonder” features Steven Thang, a Burmese electric guitarist who is living as a refugee in Malaysia. The music was arranged by Melina William from the rock band Tempered Mental, and mastered by Bryan Limus. Students from Sekolah Alternatif also contributed their artworks in the lyric video for 'I Wonder'.
