Wearing the color maroon, the devotees walk barefoot during the procession

Show of religious frenzy, thousands of pilgrims risked their lives, joining the procession of the Black Nazarene
Showing intense fascination with their idol, everyone surged forward, started shoving and moving like a wave creating a massive stampede
The devotees rushed and squeezed their way, continued pushing and shoving causing the railings to collapse, trying to get closer to the black wooden sculpture just to touch it with hands or white towels, believing it is an atonement for their sins or hope for some miracle and to protect them from evil deeds
Hundreds were injured, others were crushed to death... showing a horrific display of devotion
Poor misled souls misguided by their own religion, tolerating this act of behavior, leading them to the path of damnation
