Spurred by the success of 'Inside Out' from the Smallville soundtrack, Vonray’s full-length major-label debut serves up big gobs of earnest, melodic rock. Like Eddie Vedder with less restraint, frontman Vaughan Rhea writes huge choruses and guitar riffs tailor-made for stadiums. It may be a familiar formula, but this band isn’t trying to reinvent the wheel. And while a lack of variety makes it tough to distinguish one song from the next, each is executed with polish and laser-guided hooks. Vonray’s uncomplicated, shiny rock is the ideal party warm-up for those who still hope Pearl Jam will someday make a sequel to Ten. --Matthew Cooke
