Volume 17 of the recordings of Erroll Garner presented in chronological order, includes 19 tracks that were made at an extended session in July 1954. The pianist is known for his marathon dates in the studio but it seems than this must be one of the most productive days he ever spent making records! Garner only made two dates for Mercury during his short fling away from Columbia, but both proved eminently productive not only as to the mere amount of music but also quality wise. The enclosed tracks feature Garner backed by his reliable and well rehearsed cohorts Wyatt Ruther and Fats Heard. The addition of Candido Camero on conga may read like a mere concession to contemporary fashion but his rhythmic accents add new facets to Garner's music.
